Bearcats News · Bedford Varsity Softball Drops Both Games By One Run To Laurel


Game one:

Despite a 5-run deficit in the third inning, Bedford Bearcats Varsity almost came all the way back, eventually falling 10-9 to Laurel on Saturday. Bedford Bearcats Varsity managed eight runs in the failed comeback. Mya Thomas, Jamila Woods, Shaniah Jackson, Kendra Clark, and Thomas came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity was right in it until Laurel in the fifth inning.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity scored five runs in the fourth inning. Bedford Bearcats Varsity big bats were led by Woods, Jackson, Clark, and Thomas, who all drove in runs.

Olivia Pliske took the loss for Bedford Bearcats Varsity. She surrendered ten runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out three.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity tallied ten hits on the day. Clark, Woods, and Thomas all had multiple hits for Bedford Bearcats Varsity. Thomas, Woods, and Clark all had two hits to lead Bedford Bearcats Varsity. Bedford Bearcats Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Thomas had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.

 

Game Two:

Saturday’s second game against Laurel was a heartbreaker for Bedford Bearcats Varsity, as they lost the lead late in a 9-8 defeat. The game was tied at seven with Laurel batting in the bottom of the fourth when a sacrifice bunt scored one run for Laurel.

Despite the loss, Bedford Bearcats Varsity did collect nine hits in the high-scoring game.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity opened up scoring in the first inning. Bedford Bearcats Varsity scored one run when Marisa Zenda singled.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity evened things up at eight in the top of the fifth inning. Emily Rist drove in one when she singled.

After Bedford Bearcats Varsity scored three runs in the top of the third, Laurel answered with three of their own. Bedford Bearcats Varsity scored when an error scored three runs for Bedford Bearcats Varsity.

Mya Thomas took the loss for Bedford Bearcats Varsity. She went four innings, allowing nine runs on two hits and striking out six.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity smacked one home run on the day. Olivia Pliske went for the long ball in the second inning.

Bedford Bearcats Varsity totaled nine hits in the game. Rist and Makaela Smith each racked up multiple hits for Bedford Bearcats Varsity. Smith and Rist each collected two hits to lead Bedford Bearcats Varsity.
